Saeed Malekpour wrote a program which uploads images to the internet. People have used his program to upload pornography. Iranian officials arrested

For some reason this really hit a nerve. I've read that they were developing nuclear technology

which concerned me but I had hoped it was for nuclear power. I've also read that they were making threats to

close the strait of hormuz but I assumed it was just a ploy to give them some leverage in regards to EU sanctions. I'm not exactly sure what should be done but I have a feeling this behavior will only escalate until we are forced to take action.
I'm going to say this only once: he is not being executed for programming. He is going to be executed for being a citizen of a western country. Unless that country pays a ransom (Google it, its happened before.).

Frankly, I don't really care, and I don't think we should pay any such ransom. Let his death serve as a warning to others as to why you shouldn't visit foreign powers whom are in conflict with yours.

In time the project grows, the ignorance of its devs it shows, with many a convoluted function, it plunges into deep compunction, the price of failure is high, Washu's mirth is nigh.

Yeah old story. This is mostly political. It's not really about his profession. I honestly don't understand why people would willingly go into such countries. I get his dad was sick, but the risk is just way too high in an unstable regime like that where you'll be killed. Iran is not the only country that does this kind of stuff. You can find dozens of stories like this that go unnoticed in the media where corrupt justice systems willingly kill their own civilians for what western societies would view as "free speech". Indonesia for instance does this kind of stuff all the time where they pick random people to make a political point.

You are talking about third party terrorist groups which have kidnapped tourists. Though I'm not saying the the government didn't hire the thugs but they were not directly affiliated with the government.

No. I'm not.

China did it recently and so did Iran with an ex American soldier visiting family. Both times we paid the ransom.

K, guess we haven't with the soldier yet

These were released after Japan released Chinese fishermen who were caught illegally fishing on Japanese waters.

Why do we allow our airlines to offer flights to these countries?

It's not the cold war...
An islamic state where women are restricted from showing all their hair and figure in public, don't take kindly to people uploading porn. When it can't find those directly responsible, it takes out the service provider. Of course it isn't "just", but that's how justice works.
It is I, the spectaculous Don Karnage! My bloodthirsty horde is on an intercept course with you. We will be shooting you and looting you in precisely... Ten minutes. Felicitations!

Lots of people do much stupider things for much stupider reasons (maybe you've even done something dangerous at some point in your life). I'm not sure why you'd wish death on this particular person unless you personally would have to pay the ransom.
