Did you try restoring to a previous workable state?

I did but that didin't help at all. Also ran "scf /scannow", and it reported 7 windows files that are corupted and un able to repair. I really wish I was there when the error happened. Maybe something happened to the comp, like a ghost or something.

Could be a virus.. have you thought about that?

definitely a possiblility, though I'm surprised that I can't find any information of it, so I'm sticking with the thought that part of windows got corrupted, wether it virus, hardware or strange software clashing. I already bought a new home premium disc... can't believe prices haven't gone down all that much... swear I payed 200-300 for ultimate when it first came out and it's still 200 :(, just waiting for it to show up in the mail.

My brother had a virus last week where the big (Norton, McAfee, AVG) virus scanners could do nothing to find it.. so you might want to give Malwarebytes Anti-Malware a try.. you can find it on download.cnet and it looks like it costs money but thats just for the advanced features (Which you won't need)..

Try to download here -> http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
