Hello fellow audiophiles,

I've been looking for hours on the interwebs, but haven't found a solution to my problem yet.



What I want to do is simply change the duration of the notes in the marked chords in the bass clef as follows:

• The G in the first chord (C/G) from an eighth to a whole note, but the E in that chord only from an eighth to a dotted half note.
  
• The lower F and the D in the second chord (Dm7/F) from an eighth to a half note, but the upper F is to remain an eighth note.
  
  So far I have only been able to adjust the duration of all notes in a chord, like in the non-marked chords in the bass clef, which took me quite some time to even figure out how to do, and I had to reposition all following notes in the corresponding bar in the bass clef.
  
  Any help would be much appreciated!

If you're wanting the lower notes to change to a different rhythm but keep the middle (higher) notes at a lower duration then I would work with different layers. For example:

Layer 1 - the longer, lower notes.

Layer 2 - the shorter, higher notes (as written).

Do you know how to work via layers in Finale? I have Finale 2006 so it's been a good long while since I've updated (or used) the program frankly but that's how it worked back in the day.

Side note - if memory serves if you click on a note then type "l" it should change the direction of the stem. The letter might be different now but you can change the stems to make sure they're more readable.

Nope, no idea actually. I just downloaded the demo yesterday to create sheet music for my scherzo.

Side note - if memory serves if you click on a note then type "l" it should change the direction of the stem. The letter might be different now but you can change the stems to make sure they're more readable.

The key-shortcut doesn't work, but there's a "Reverse Stem Tool" that does the job. I was going to do some cleaning up once I fixed all the note durations, but thanks for bringing that up anyways.



Update: Alright, I got it to work now. Took me a few minutes to find the entry in the manual about layers, but it's working now. Thanks for your help, Nate!

Sure thing. I used to do a whole lot of musical transcriptions and such for profs and students while in college using Finale. Good to know I still remember the program. I might actually update to the recent version one of these days...
