This is a bit of a strange question but it has been something that's been on my mind for a while now.
Part of the fun in shooter games is watching bullets hit enemies. I hate it when I shoot an enemy and they show no signs of taking damage until their health reaches 0; then they go through some sort of death animation. When I'm playing a shooter I want to see my enemies reacting to the bullets and..... lets be honest.... I want to see some blood.
Games like this usually get a Mature rating, but what if you wanted to make a game for a younger crowd that still captures that shooter feel? A pretty obvious answer is: robots! Even if you didn't target a younger crowd, robots are still a good enemy. The problem is... they don't bleed. When I'm fighting robots I don't get that same feeling as I do when organic enemies. So here is the question:
What should a robot's reaction be to getting hit by a bullet? Should they explode? Should the spray gasoline and oil out? What are your thoughts?
Also I want to see similar effects in Hack & Slash games.
PS: sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Didn't really know where to put it.
Robot Enemies
I voted for both. For minor injuries, to greater injuries, I would like to see limbs falling off, fluids spitting out, sparks flying, and if all is worthwhile, an explosion here and there.
Then again, who wouldn't?
Then again, who wouldn't?
