Most of the topics in this section are about programming, but this is really a beginner question in developing a game so I hope it's the right section (just move this if it's not)

So far, I've got to know about the elements(is this the right term?) in developing a game;
Game Design, Visual Designers, Programmers, Music, Writing, and Business.

Aside from business (I'm not thinking about it yet), I'm trying to understand the rest lately.
Since I'm planning to make a short (small) game project with people from these areas of expertise.
It'll help a lot to know the basic, yes?

Fortunately I'm a bit more familiar about 3D designs from hanging out with 3D animations major during college (fresh graduate here)
but lacking friends who understand the rest. I found it more easier and enjoyable to hear straight from other's experience.

Generally, the project will be small, short of like a demo; it's intended to help increasing our portfolio and experiencing the process of making a game (and I've always wanted to, of course).
I try to be realistic since I'm new to game development (so are most people that willing to contribute/help, most are fresh graduates from 3D major and I'm from visual communications HAHAHA) but there's standard benchmark for the quality. It should help us showing our capabilities after all. It's more focused on showing character design, visual/concept design and 3D designs and hopefully a game interface+gameplay too.

Until now, there are drafts for: story/plots, visual theme, gameplay and the interface (again drafts) I've thought and researched a bit. So does this mean I can do both game design and writing for this project? Or it'll be better to ask help of a writer? Since I know my limitation in English and that I only have thought the summary and events of the game with no major details yet.

Then about the game interface design and the...programming, like the basic health gauge, menu and if possible enemy's A.I; what should I know to be able explaining my idea clearly to the programmer?

I haven't thought much about music aspect for my planned project, but important pointers are greatly appreciated :)
Thanks for the reply, it'll be fun to discuss more details of this idea with you guys after I have clearer understanding. tldr; hi and help hahaha
Ceeecee, I think you're asking about project management? Or are you just looking for information about the different types of jobs in the game industry?
If project management, this will be moved to Business.
If jobs/careers, this will be moved to Breaking In.
The For Beginners forum is a technical forum.

Please continue your topic in this thread (don't start a new one in another forum).
