So, this question has been pestering me for quite some time now. Do people really enjoy Sanctum, or was it just an interest spike due to something "new" coming onto the spotlight?

As a player, I was let down by the game. The initial release had poor multiplayer, with no lobbies, and the gameplay itself was eerie. The turrets were quite useless against some monster types (come to think of it, most of them, as they did not target the areas that allowed dealing any damage) and your personal weaponry was overpowered, and quite frankly the only way to win in the game was follow the maze by foot while shooting.

As a designer, I understand that this is an indie title. Still, while using the Unreal engine, I cannot understand why the graphics are so poor. For a title that hyped the crowd so much, it could be a little less embarrasing (I mean, that chick with the large, charger-like hand...).

Generally this just feels like a dumb shoot-em-up, but maybe I was just playing it wrong. Your thoughts?

I didn't pick this up when it originally released, so I don't know the problems. But my brother and I play this a lot, and we have a blast every time. I think it's a pretty fun game, taking tower defense genre in a new direction. Some mobs you have to take down with your weapons, while others are best left to towers. For example, runners, there's a lot of them, it's better to have towers kill them off because my accuracy isn't that great. But bobbleheads and tanks, as well as soakers, you need to personally handle them. What would be the point of having weapons if all mobs can be killed by towers?

They've recently released new DLC and patches for the game, and it's more tough than before. The weapons in fact feel underpowered for me. If you think the only way to win is to follow the maze, you're doing things wrong. There's tips and tricks here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctum_(2011_video_game) The most important thing to consider is that at 90 degree turns, the mobs has to stop and turn. So the more turns you have, the better. Long hallways in a maze don't perform as well as a maze that's all twisty (most TD games, mobs don't slow down when turning, this one does however)

As for the graphics, I don't see anything wrong with it. It accomplishes its purpose well. I don't get confused where I am. Each type of mob is distinct from each other. I think it's well designed and looks good, while keeping things simple. This isn't targeted towards hardcore players with bleeding edge computer hardware, this is targeted towards casual FPS players.
