How to not compare mobile phone OSes.

What drove me nuts what Apple used to advertise their phone as "The worlds thinnest smartphone", which made me shake my head with a giant WTF moment? My Xperia X10 is much slimmer than an iPhone 4, it's even smaller than my old iPhone 3g. It was just so flagrantly wrong I went huh???

I call bullshit
iphone 4s (physically identical to 4) is 9.3mm thick
whereas the Xperia X10 is 13mm thick

I'm not saying the iphone is the thinnest smartphone (it probably isn't), but at least check your facts. Unless there's another Xperia X10?

As for the OP review, that's Paul Thurrott, the guy who runs Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows. Is it any wonder he prefers WP7?

Personally, I've tried WP7, Android and iOS. iOS was the nicest to use, so that's what I use. I don't have facts or figures to back that up, but I don't have to. It's a subjective experience.

the LG optimus black is 9.2mm thick at it's widest part, and tapers to a bit thinner. The statement by apple is still quite flagrantly wrong. In November pretty much every phone is going to be spanked by the motorola droid Razr which is 7.something mm thick.

If you read my post again, you'll see the bit where i said "I'm not saying the iPhone is the thinnest smartphone"

Whole thing is a bit pointless IMHO. Once you reach a certain level, say below 10mm, it fits comfortably in your pocket. After that, unless it's thin and flexible enough to be integrated in clothing or something, its law of diminishing returns

Why does everyone jump to the assumption that a reply not directly agreeing with you means it is an attack? It was just a clarification; untie your panties.

Of course, I never expected less. Like I said in the OP, he's a fanboi. But still, at least don't stoop to "my OS can run on old hardware and yours can't, so your OS sucks" comparisons.

Poor model comparisons happen day to day with android too. My phone costs me like, $120, so it's pretty much just a phone shaped object with android jammed into the plastic. Still, it manages to do everything I need it to do except play a fair few games on the market place. Yet, whenever I mention "Oh my phone wont run that" I get the reply "OH GOD SEE, that's what is wrong with android!". I try to point out I have a $120 phone by choice and if I wanted a $500 I could get one. Still, people always seem to use it as a mark against the android in the whole silly phone debate.

Side note: Alpha_ProgDes, how do you like your Windows phone? I've been hearing a lot of good things about them lately and it sounds like the platform is maturing really well. On one hand, Android just released ICS which fixes a huge number of problems the community had, plus the android marketplace is much bigger and more open, but the windows phones just work so nice. Any post-purchase thoughts?

Next week Nokia is going to be announcing all their windows phones. I'm really considering switching carriers for one of their new phones, but I'm holding judgement to see them. Their prototypes looked amazing though. Unfortunately everything they showed after the prototypes looks much less amazing :(

This is a gorgeous phone

Initially, I hated it, lol. I went from a HTC HD2 (WM 6.5 with HTC Sense) to HTC HD7 (plain ol' WP7). It was quite unintuitive to me at the time. Nothing was where I expected it. It didn't respond the way I thought. Examples: where's the 'X' button on all the apps?! When I tap on the power icon, why can't I see how much battery life I have? The search button is Bing, word search, app search at random! This was in June.

Now, I really like my WP 7.5. I've gotten used to it. To close an app, you just hit the back button. To see what apps you have running, you hold the back button (i just found this out, last month, lol). Still can't tap the power icon to see the battery life remaining, but very very small inconvenience. The search button is context sensitive (duh). However, apps run smooth. Very, very rarely see slowdown. The games run quite well. The App Store is very nice. Immediately tells when there's an update (most can be updated on the spot). Easy to find apps. Though I was forced to upgrade from a HD2 to HD7 (HD2 malfunctioned), I can say I'm quite happy that I did. HTC and WP7 have gained a loyal customer. I have an Android Tablet (Superpad, you should google it). It's nice, but if WP7.5 was on a tablet, I would so get it. I'm very keen to see what they do with Windows 8 and WP8. Metro UI is the Win. Seriously.
