Just wondering if anyone knows of a NAS device with inbuilt storage that is both wireless and can be used as a media player. Basically I'm wanting a device that I can link to my TV , access wirelessly from any other computer to transfer movies/music, and then play those on the TV its linked to. The files need to be stored locally on the device though, I dont want them to be streamed.
I havent managed to find a device that does this all in one. I have however found some combinations
Seagate GoFlex Home with the GoFlex Tv Accessory
Netgear Neo Tv 500 with the Wifi Accessory and a USB hardrive
But would rather less clutter
Wireless NAS with media player
You might look into the rasberrypi. It isn't out yet, but it is moving along quickly and set to be released in November. It is cheap, can connect to a hard drive, your tv, and a wireless network (through usb dongle). The other good thing is that it is cheap. Only $25.
I think Im going to just go with the GoFlex Home and access it from my Xbox for the time being.
Why do you not want to stream? If it's local, your performance shouldn't be hurting at all really. Then all you need is a 360, PS3, or appletv. I believe some tvs are starting to have this functionality built in also.
You could always build yourself a media center PC as well though :-p
