Internet connection isn't working for specific sites
I tried to get on Sourceforge today and yesterday and encountered a weird problem with my internet connection. I figured it must be either down, or my network connection was just being slow. So I tried to go to another computer to go on SF. It didn't work on that one either, so I assumed it was down until I tried to go to Collegeboard for the SAT question of the day, which didn't work either. Then my brother tried to get online to play Wizard101 and couldn't get on any Kingsisle related websites, or log into Wizard101. All of this was happening on different computers, all of which are secured with Avast and Spybot. I even tried to get on those sites with the browser on my Nintendo 3DS and couldn't. The weird thing is that everything else works, nVidia developer zone, AMD dev zone, Gamedev (obviously; because I'm posting right now). All the computers are hooked up to the same router, one through LAN and the others wirelessly. The router is connected to the modem. I tried connecting through a Cat5 directly to the modem and the problem still showed up. I also tried re-setting everything. It's a Comcast modem and a Belkin router. It would be great if anyone could help, because I need to be able to get on Sourceforge.
It sounds like a DNS problem, hardcode your DNS entries to 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4 then ipconfig /flushdns on your client.
If that doesn't do it, try a tracert and report the results.
If you are still selectively having problems connecting to certain sites, make sure your hosts file hasn't been compromised.

I set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and the secondary DNS to 4.4.4.4 then ran ipconfig/flushdns. Both tracert and ping timed out. And I ran a hosts file repair utility. None of those things fixed it.
tracert timed out to all locations or just certain ones? Where did it time out, did it make it past your default gateway?

Tracert timed out on sourceforge after the fifth line. Same with collegeboard and same with Wizard101.com. None of them make it past the Comcast addresses. I tried calling the Comcast tech support. They just said it was too hard for them to figure out, and that I should get a technician to come out and fix it. I tried tracert on the pages that work in the browser and it completed just fine.
Can you access it through a proxy? That might get you there for now and perhaps the problem will clear up on its own in a few days. There are plenty of free proxies available on the net which aren't terribly fast, but should work. Also try TOR.
Do you know anybody else with the same ISP locally who could test it out? If it works there, it has to be something buggy with your modem or router... if not, maybe it's some conspiracy being executed by Comcast as an attack on free software and... the SAT?

I do know someone with the same ISP. The guy at comcast tried to get on all the places that I couldn't and he wasn't having any problems. I'll try a proxy and see if that does anything.
I had a similar type of problem around a year ago with my ISP -- after lots of phoning, they claimed they were making some upgrades in the network, and as such some gateways that would pass european sites just weren't active.
If anything, it is your ISP that is at fault. Try and send them the tracert results.

For some reason it just started working today out of the blue.
