We The People launched a few weeks ago. I was skeptical at first, but it seems to be doing fairly well. The commenting system still seems to be in development.

Sorting by popularity has a lot of interesting topics. I won't bias the thread by listing my favorites. Fun system though if you live in the US. (I believe it's international though so anyone can participate).

I voted a few times already. Waiting for the comment system. I already submitted all of my feedback to make things better. (I imagine they know about the minor usability problems).

I love this. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

edit: I wonder if they anticipated the number of drug related petitions they'd get. Right now I've seen close to 10 with over 5,000 signers.

It's always one of the more hotly debated topics so I think they assumed it was going to get pushed to the front. Soon they'll have a response and be removed from the system though.
Yep, using the IP address and other details they record they will gather the names and address of all those who voted on drug issues and round them up for 're-education'!

Not a bad idea I suppose, we have something similar here (Britain) which seems a little more useful, I think parliment has to "debate" the issue rather than someone just "responding" to it. Either way, they don't actually have to do anything about it but I'm not against the idea.

I think it's a good way for people who aren't necessarily the most vocal to express their concerns. For example, I wouldn't actually go and protest or petition in public for very much, but I've already voted for a bunch of things I strongly agree with and made a petition.

I feel like the middle of the road Americans tend to not be represented just because they're the least likely to have a big public outcry or do anything severe about it. This seems like a good way for them to show what they actually support rather than politicians having to gauge off the 500 people who just happen to be angry enough to stand outside their door.

That's a good idea. I wonder how they are going to manage duplicated petitions (same goal, but different wording). I doubt anybody would read through hundreds of existing petitions just to see if what they are petitioning for already exists.

I also find it loathsome that they put "Invest in green jobs"even after Obama's recent Solyndra scandal.

:( Watch the video. It searches for similar petitions and tells you about them so you don't make a duplicate. The people making duplicates are doing it on purpose either to draw out voters so that their votes are split or because they don't like the wording.
That's pretty cool. Wish Australia had it.

My favourites:

https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petition/legalize-regulate-and-tax-marijuana/0kmTLwC7

Those two have over 70k signatures, I think they will most defiantly get responses.

This one is kind of in the same vein and has 15k.

Sooooo many Cannabis and Marijuana ones it's not even funny.

There was also one I liked about changing the US motto from In God We Trust to a less religious motto, that would be a lot better.

Now, just need one for Aus!

There's another about removing "...One nation under God," from the pledge of allegiance.
