'Unlimited Detail' graphics

Not sure if this has already been posted on GD or not, but my boss sent this to me and I thought it was pretty cool. It's a new tech using 'atoms' in games instead of polygons.

The article is pretty vague on how it works, but does anyone know what type of space/memory requirements an environment like that would need? I would think it would be quite large.
