Hey guys,

I'm a 16 year old boy from the Netherlands, dreaming of a carreer in the Games Industry. Still scared to death that the academy won't let me join. I model with lots of fun and pleasure, it's like a hobby. Just joined the forums, waiting for you guys to give some critism.

Today I finished this midpoly spaceship, called the XR-H21 (Imaginated name).
Please tell me what you think, all critism is welcome!

It looks pretty good! Just a few things I can see.

I'm not an expert on 3D modelling, but it does look like you used way to many polys on the gatling guns. The rockets look kind of retro (short with curving fins) that don't really match the rest of the design, and the front landing gear look really strange to me, although I'm really used to real airplanes.

Good luck!

Good stuff! I dig the angular style of it, and the front light integration is very slick and flows well with the design.

I agree with Prinz regarding the retro look of the rockets, but I think it's the organic shapes of the rockets don't really match the angular structure of the craft itself. Check out some modern day armament for reference. I would like to see much more detail on the hydraulics of the front landing gear. Check out some pictures of modern-day aircraft for reference. Also, your craft looks very tough except for the cockpit area. I would maybe add some reinforced-looking framework for the canopy, similar to say what you may see on an Apache helicopter.

Overall though, I really dig the style and can't wait for textures. Good work.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Thanks so much for these comments, they really help me making a nice portfolio piece (for the Game Academy). I'm still learning UV texturing but I'm beginning to understand how it works. You guys are right about the high-poly count on the miniguns, also about the rockets and the landing gear! Thanks!

chargh,
I like how this looks but the wings seem a bit flat and the tip of the plan seems a little boxy

Looks pretty good. I just wanted to raise a separate thought/issue: if technology in your game setting has advanced to the point where we can have single-occupant fighter-style spacecraft, then we probably also have energy-based projectile weapons, which eliminate the need to carry discrete ammunition for guns as well as the possibility of running out of ammo. This is why the Star Treks and Star Warses of the world use "blasters" and "tachion cannons" and "phasers."

Nice work so far! smile.gif
