Hello, I'm Seth, or you can call me by my nickname; Azrial. I am still in high school entering my junior year and I am working towards a future career in the gaming industry as either a 3D artist or designer. I'm happy to be apart of this site now and I feel honored to be talking to actual remembers of the gaming industry!
Also I do on the other hand have a few questions;
1.What are some requirements to be a 3D artist?
2.What are some requirements to being a Designer?
3.What are some of the general expectations when working in the gaming industry?
4.What are some good places to search for a job in the gaming industry?
5.What is the dress code like when working in the gaming industry? What is the work environment like?
Thank you all for your time reading this and answering my questions if you do. I hope I posted this in the right section by the way.
A Future Member Of The Industry
i can answer 2 questions.
1. you need to learn the ins and outs of modelling, whether it be your favorite style or something youd rather not do, you should learn how the whole thing works. me I prefer voxel sculpting and the new zbrush coming out, but ive also done a bit of subdivision modelling... i never did nurbs, but maybe i should have... at least i know of it tho. you should know of a lot of different software, and you should get good at offline rendering, its good for cinematics, title screens, and alot of other things even tho its not realtime. it helps if your models animate. it also helps if you have 2d art to go with your 3d art, so get good at sketching.
5. dress messily. dont shave.

3. Expect long hours. This is pretty much a given... the situation might improve by the time you make it but I wouldn't count on it.
5. It tends to be very casual, but this depends on the company. Some people I work with turn up in shirt and trousers, others jeans and t-shirt.

No, I didn't come with that name until a few weeks ago.

Do you think many people in the industry have DnD-ish nicknames?

I don't see how it's DnD-ish, but even if it is I still like it!

It's just an observation. I just know that if I met someone in real life and they introduced themselves by saying, "I'm seth, but you can call me Azrial," they'd have a much higher hill to climb for my approval than someone that introduced themselves as just seth. I'm also somewhat of the opinion that if you have a nickname that isn't just shorthand for your given name they should be given to you by someone else rather than coming up with your own.

Oh, I can understand where you are coming from. The only time I actually use this nickname is for online.
