It's much like visiting the website of any (other) corporate/government entity that spends money on public relations...

Yah, it's kinda just a press release along the lines of "This is what we're up to is that thing that we're supposed to be doing and stuff". Here's the NASA version.

I do appreciate that they bother though. The US federal government has a lot of great websites and I appreciate the effort. One time I tried to use the internet to find some information while going through immigration formalities in Poland, and what I found was sparse, out of date and in some cases just plain wrong.

Meanwhile we've got the World Factbook, the NASA site (which IMHO is spectacular), federal student aid stuff is online, etc. etc.Then a lot of smaller offices and branches (military bases, various embassies) have websites (even if they use templates).
