Ok my post here is not so much about the actual terrorist attack back on Tuesday but about effects of it in the media. This post has some relevance to OpenGL mainly because of the nature of 3d games and that the PS2 has OpenGL (at least as far as I remember when Sony made the SDK demo for it). This was a quote on IGN from Friday: "Konami of America is still in shock over the recent tragic events," said a spokesperson from Konami of America. "Metal Gear Solid 2 is about the desire to end violence on a global scale, as the previous games in the series have been. Like everyone in America, Konami is evaluating the impact of these events. In the meantime, all of our thoughts are with New York City and Washington, DC and all of the people whose lives have been touched by this tragedy. There are no words to adequately express our sorrow, but we firmly believe that the people of America will come through this trial stronger than ever." "We do not know what effects there will be upon Metal Gear Solid 2 at this moment," added a spokesperson from Konami Japan. "We are currently collecting and analyzing information regarding this matter and would like to express our condolences to the victims of the tragedy." Let me go on to say that the Metal Gear Solid series is by far the best in its genre, the story, action, music, and dramatic touches all top notch. It brings up another subject about last week and the stir about Tom Clancy because one of his recent novels had a point similar to Tuesday''s tragedy and the fact that he is one of few if any (I don''t know someone might want to shed some light on this) civilians in the U.S. to have military clearance. I think it''s through games like this and Rogue Spear/Rainbow 6 and movies like The Seige, Password: Swordfish, Executive Decisionm and many others that help us understand in some small way the possibilities and methods of terrorism as written in fiction. They are not made to insight these thoughts as the people who scheme these diabolical plots have been working on them for years. It shouldn''t (and I say this pretty biased) be in our best interests to ban materials because they reflect hard times, if we do that we give in to the terror that terrorism creates. Anyone want to shed some light on this?
