We should have like.... buying pact

To put it quite simply, if a member has been here for more than 18 months and he/she make a game and publishes it, then we should buy it. Not advertise to other people or sites. But just buy it. Have GameDev.net support its own.

Ill glady buy anyones indie game, I wouldn't need a pact for that, on that same subjects TONS of times i spend 10 or 20$ heres and there for an indie game and only play it for like 15 minutes not that their not good, but I got the worst attention span ever :-/

I allready spend tons of money on indie games so i don't see a need for something like this, i'd rather people bought my games because of their quality rather than based on the age of my gamedev account. (I don't buy games i don't want to play regardless of who made it though and a large amount of my indie spendings are on flash portals. (portals such as kongregate allow you to buy virtual currency and use that to leave tips for games you like (this is great as it means you can tip fairly low amounts on each game you like without having everything eaten up by transaction costs)

No but in all seriousness, I understand your sentiment but we're all too lazy to form a pact. I can't even find the commitment level to clean my dishes on a regular basis.
One thing that I think might be cool tho, is to bring more attention to people who have a finished game out for playing or testing, I know we have your anoncements and stuff like that on the front page, but I usually just come straight to the forum myself. Maybe some kind of small rss type news feed at the top of the page, Iam doing something like that for one of my own sites. Just an idea.
I spend money on good games. Indie. AAA. Whatever. Don't care, never did, never will.
If you want me to buy your game, make it good and make it appealing enough. Slap a price tag on it. Market the hell out of it. Done. Copy sold. No pact required.

Is the Marketplace section supposed to be a place where any of us can sell our stuff? If so, maybe there just needs to have more attention drawn to it so that people know it's there and to check it out once in awhile.
I like that ^^^ idea, on a side note, why would people rate down the OP, its a good well intentioned idea
I don't really understand the point. I only buy games that look good. You're suggesting a pact that obliges us to buy someone's game just because they've been around here for a while?

My company promotes people based on how long they've been here rather than on merit. It's a horrible and destructive practice.

if you're suggesting that more people should buy indie games, then I agree. If you're suggesting there should be more or better outlets for people to buy indie games, then I agree. I don't agree, however, that we should prefer indie games made by GDNet members over those made by anyone else, nor that anyone should agree to buy someone's game based on how long they've been a member.

As a related aside, GDNet is not a community of indie developers. Many of us are professional developers.
The OP's post isnt about prefering indie games by GDNet members, its about supporting and encouraging your fellow GDNet community members, I said I dont need a pact cause I would do it regardless, if you dont want to you dont have to, but I think its a good idea to promote

I really dont understand why this idea bothers people, "How dare he say that we should support and encourage our community!?!?" that sounds ridiculous...

[Edit] Tho maybe the 18 month rule is a bit to long, I dont think its a bad idea, if someone was creating an indie game and decided to join GameDev just to promote the day after, they haven't really been a part of the community.

Many of the gamedev members you've seen have at one time or another helped eachother out, via answering questions to forum post outside of the GDNet Lounge, the longer they been here the more they probably contributed positively to the community, so why not extend a helping hand to those active community member that during his/her spare time created a game that he/she just wants to see people to playing.
