Audio Drift in DVD Extraction

Hey folks,

I've been struggling with an issue for some time that I think, considering the backgrounds around here, you may be able to help me with. My mom got a VHS-to-DVD converter to get some old family videos onto her laptop, so she can edit and burn them back onto DVDs. I'm having a really hard time getting the video onto the computer successfully. The video always extracts fine, all 6 hours of it, but the audio "drifts" throughout. At the beginning of the video it lines up perfectly, but near the end it is off as much as 30 seconds. I'm using HandBrake to do this.

Here are some of the audio settings I've tried, with both MPEG4 (FFmpeg) video encoding:

AC3 Passthru -> No sound at all
MP3 Stereo -> No sound at all
AC3 (ffmpeg) Stereo -> No sound at all
AAC (faac) Dolby Pro Logic 2 -> Audio drift
AAC (faac) Stereo -> Audio drift
AAC (faac) Stereo, with video locked to rate of 23.976 --> HandBrake locks up

...and various other combinations (including with H.264 video encoding) that all result in one of these 3 outcomes.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or knows of a good alternative program to extract the video off DVD? I've not dealt with DVD extraction at all other than this VHS-converted video.

Thanks a lot!!!!
