There is very small game called RPGWO (role playing game world online). It has its own site rpgwo.com and forums rpgwoforums.com Its been around since 1999. Ive been playing it since 2003-2004. It had more players then (around 40-50) but it is unlike any other game ive played. Its 2d and the entire world is persistent.
As you can see from the screenshots you can make your own houses. you can make it anyway you want it. The process of building a house is usually leveling the ground with a shovel and discarding the sand. Placing flooring down with boards you made by cutting down a tree using, then using a saw on the log to create boards and then tiles. You can use boards to create individual walls on a tile so you can make anything you want.
Haven hearth comes close to this but its not quite as face paced and the houses arent as creative.
The game has a lot more to it and it really has the mmorpg elements that modern games dont have. The players have diminished because of all the worlds being "wiped" and restarted but this game is a gem when it has a playerbase.
There is much more to the game than I have said with an extensive crafting system called "usage"
Ill give a demonstration to anyone wants to play
1 person created it so I wish someone would spend time recreating something like this.
Great underrated game that hasnt been duplicated
Ultima onlines house system is based off currency which isnt too fun. I suggest you guys try this game.
Sounds very interesting. What is the gameplay like aside from the housing? Like do you level up by killing monsters or is it just making houses?

If it is just making houses than it is literally just like a tale in the desert except not in a desert.

Just "A tale" then?

Most people in the game train their fighting or crafting skills. The skill system is use based so you get exp from using its a bit grindy but in its prime there were 2 large guilds fighting each other and both had guild halls. Ultima online is similar but ultima online kinda seems dull because the whole map is flat and the houses are on raised foundations. In rpgwo you can level and raise the ground and there is a "second" map underground that can be mined but plants wont grow. The lighting and line of sight system is also interesting.
If you try it, dont be put off by the graphics and lack of players. If you decide to try it, in the chat box type /g to talk to other players globally for help
