Looking at source code makes me sleepy! Help?

I've been noticing this annoying occurrence that happens to me everytime for the last 3 years. Whenever I look at source code, I immediately feel sleepy and sometimes just start sleep when my shuts when blinking without me realizing! This is very unproductive especially my profession involves programming. But, whenever I do other stuff by reading and viewing websites or use other software (non-IDE) it happens less often.

What the hell is wrong with me? Seems psychological huh? Anyone experiencing this too? I wonder what's the cause of this and how do I treat it?

This is a serious inquiry by the way.

Have you tried changing the color scheme of your ide? maybe staring into a bright white screen is getting to ya... ie most website aren't huge white screens with little black text on them. OR you can be like the average American and down coffee and redbulls all day. Also search this, this topic has come up before, and the OP usually gets bashed for it with the usual, stop asking us and go see a doctor already.

I'm not mean, I just like to get to the point.

Nope I haven't. I might try this. Good theory.

I've tried coffee before, it wasn't good for me as it caused major hyperacidity and other digestion-related issues.

Sounds like I'm not the only one. It's good to know its not a weird thing. Well doctor's the last resort.

I know exactly what you mean. It's like 4 AM in the morning right now and I have this horrible feeling like my body is trying to override my brain and knock me out. I just push through it and keep coding and it usually gives up.

Does sound like a medical issue. You have a varied diet right? Not just eating the same things like junk food? When they say junk food can slow you down they mean it. Eat healthy balanced meals and get adequate exercise and sleep. Sitting behind a computer with no physical movement can make people sluggish I'm guessing.

Though honestly it's probably the onset of Aids. Good luck. :(
get some sleep?

On the medical route, does your leg shake? Do you have stiff muscles in your legs or jaw when you wake? Do you snore at night? Do you wake and discover small scratches on your body? Are you sleepy after what should have been a full night's sleep?

Many people have sleep issues like restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, nighttime teeth grinding, or other concerns.

Often they don't realize it is a problem because they are sleeping. Or perhaps not really sleeping, but not being awake. Or whatever conscious state it actually is.

Don't overlook it just because you don't want to deal with it. About 1 in 5 people have sleep difficulty for medical reasons, it is very common. My wife complained that I was waking her up at night, and I never realized I had a problem during sleep until then (although I did know I tend to get small scratches during the night from tossing and turning.). She has some interesting stories about getting kicked in the middle of the night by her sleeping husband. :-)
maybe your brain thinks its night time when you look at code because in the past it was mostly night time when you coded.
