Making a commercial remake of a free game ?

I really liked this one game and I'm wondering if I can remake it on a different platform and sell it ?
Obviously I'll need to change the name and the graphics / sounds, anything else ?
(I'm on my own and I've never sold a game before)

Thanks !
In general:
Remake: No
Game with similar gameplay: Yes

The main things that are covered by copyright are ofcourse the code itself, graphics and sound while the name may or may not be a protected trademark.
The other main thing that copyright may cover is the level design itself which really does prevent you from creating pure remakes of most games, rather simple things like the blockshapes etc used in Tetris may also be covered (The Tetris company is quite aggressive about clones atleast but AFAIK most cases have been settled outside the courts)

anything else ?

Everything else.
If you like Command and Conquer you can make the same game but with Wizards and Orcs instead of soldiers and tanks and call it Warcraft. - Same idea but completely original graphics, code, sound, name, level designs and a bunch of new stuff not in the game that inspired you.

Interesting faq and answers thanks,

Yes I'm only interested in copying the gameplay idea of the game. And the game has no real levels (like tetris or match3 games, only more original)
So I suppose I'm fine then if I tweak the gameplay a little bit and add a couple of things to it ?
I won't be copying any story, characters, graphics (not even inspired by them), sounds and such
