A generic debugger can be quite difficult to do as most applications have their own way of integrating the script engine.

It is quite easy to write your own simple debugger though, as the engine supports all the necessary functionalities for that. The manual briefly talks about how it can be done. In the future I plan to write at least a sample that implements debugging capabilities, and will try to make this into a generic add-on that will make it even easier for application developers to add this support to the applications.
