Well I sometimes feel that it's kind of weird that I'm relying on a stranger to help me out with a game, but I feel that there are some who can work with anyone from anywhere; I don't mind working with people from around the world, I just have my preferences. Also I don't mind if I can't find many people, I'm only interested in committed people. While that's a good idea that I should be looking around campus forums and clubs at UT Dallas...there's barely any clubs or groups that cater to game development and design. There's only people who are working on personal projects and some of them have their own area of interest.
So, here in Seattle (which, to be fair, is something of a game industry hub, perhaps second to the LA area) we have a group that operates through meetup.com, which is a great service if someone is willing to foot the bill, you have a sponsor, or you can collect member dues enough to cover the cost (Its not really that expensive at around 12/month but frankly you aren't getting a lot for that kind of scratch, considering what my web host offers for less money) -- while the feature set is not much more than something like Yahoo Groups -- what Meetup offers beyond that is a nicer interface, social media integration, and probably most importantly, visibility.
The way we run our group is to have two meetings per month, one of which is a 'social' meet, where we typically meet someplace with drinks and food, sometimes the local gameworks. Its basically a chance to hang out, rub elbows and hear about what people are doing. The other monthly meetup is an educational meet -- typically someone speaks for an hour on some technology or art topic, or demos a product/tool they've been using -- earlier this week a member demoed Unity, for instance. We generally reserve a conference room at the local library for these meetings, but sometimes we've been hosted by companies or by Digipen, generally when the presenter has ties to those places.
I'd consider looking for such meetup.com groups in your area, and consider creating one if one does not exist. Perhaps your school would even foot the bill if you organized it as a club -- otherwise, a couple less coffees over the course of the month isn't that big of a sacrifice. I think there's also a free trial period so you can see if there's interest before committing to the paid service.

Those that succeed typically already have a working and playable game, where others can just chip in and contribute a little bit to polish it. If you are looking for a team to start from ground up, good luck with that. A few concept arts here and there is not enough.
Team synergy is rare, even among real-life friends who are already passionate about making games. People have different ideas of what constitute a good game, platforms of choice, design, graphics.

I mostly agree to the things that you addressed, so I figure that if I can work with someone face to face then I can get a game rolling with the assurance that I can rely on those who can be contacted in person. I have checked the help wanted section on the forums and for now I'm carefully planning before I start asking help from those who I'm unlikely ever to meet face to face. Once I'm prepared to ask for help from outside sources, then I'll make sure that the project I'm working on with my team won't fade away like the other games that are pitched on this site. I understand that people have their own life to deal with so I'll take whatever help I can get on this site and from other sites.
Let's just say that I reached an epiphany and I know what I'm getting myself into. I don't want to be all talk and no promise, so instead of worrying about the other games in this forum or other forums that are begging to made, I'll be looking forward to creating a game with my assembled team. As far as team synergy goes, I was lucky to find a couple of people IRL (in real life) who want to do something with the skills they learn rather than talking like everybody else.
Again, you are right for the most part, but if you want to start making games with a team then please let others know a bit about yourself and how they can contact you.

The above project isn't really suited to team work I don't think (though I could be wrong and wouldn't mind being corrected on that) but I am interested in making contacts, hence my post here.
I hope to be able to develop the engine to a level where it can be used in commercial projects.
