The Facepalm Gaming Marathon for Charity

I'm currently organizing a new charity fundraiser for Child's Play and the Japanese Earthquake & Tsunami Relief Fund called the Facepalm Gaming Marathon

We'll be streaming ourselves online 24/7 while we tear our hair out over brutally difficult platformers. The more money people donate, the longer the marathon goes (and the longer we suffer for everyone's enjoyment!).

We're starting on April 10th at Noon (PST) and we'll be streaming at:

We've got a lot of different options for donation, most of which you involve getting a free game out of it, so give us a look. Being a charity, we need all the help we can get to spread the word around!

Updated post with the new date. It got postponed because of illness, but we're back on track and since the earthquake in Japan happened in the meantime we're now collecting donations for that too!

Nice concept,

I think it would be nice to add some more variety (instead of platformers platformers and then more platformers), how about some bullet dodges? (touhou lunatic mode)
Also will you provide a downloadable version for those who can't follow the stream at the time it is aired?

So we pay you to play some video games? Yeah right.

Seems like a scam quite frankly, no different than the people I see downtown where I live. Everyone's on the corner and in front of the fking grocery stores trying to "raise money for Japan".
They hated on Jeezus, so you think I give a f***?!

Both the ChipIn and GlobalGiving widget send the money directly to their respective charitable organizations. Never goes anywhere near us.

We're also rather established indie game developers; we've been in the PAX10, been in Time Magazine, are currently doing work with Electronic Arts and get tens of millions of hits to our games each year. If you think we're running a charity fundraiser to sabotage our career, business & brand... well that's pretty weird, dude.

Heck, I've even been on GDNet for something like eight or nine years now. I just made a new account for the new site (used to be: LockePick)

You're entitled to your opinion, though. That's cool. Always good to have some skepticism :)

Noted. We're sticking with platformers for now because they are so accessible and easy to watch; everyone understands what's going on. We have some non-gamers who will probably come and help out so it's nice to have something they 'get'.

If everything goes well I'll probably want to make this an annual event, so I'll definitely look into more types of games next time.

[color="#1C2837"]Maybe! I think UStream allows for recording, so if we get it working maybe I'll put it all online or cut together a reel of the best moments. It would be rather long uncut as it's a 24/7 marathon.

I'm talking with twune.com to put together a special package which might be really helpful to people here. I worked with John Hughes at Twune before and he was fantastic; really nice guy and made great music for Pixel Legions for a crazy cheap price. I'll be very happy if he comes on board.

We are live!

Join us, watch our suffering, and make us suffer longer by donating to charity!
