As far as I can remember this was the reason. I am well aware of the issue but nobody else cared about that.

I'm actually not sure I agree with that. I honestly haven't been impressed by anything id has done in a long time (as far as combat and enemy design go).

If the combat is intense and challenging, then RAGE will probably be fine. And if I was confident that id could implement such combat, my response to this would probably be more positive. But the combat in Doom 3 was extremely simplistic and simply isn't up to par with modern games. id actually hasn't made any games recently with good combat.

While id might still be making DOOM clones, somebody's got to, right? While it may end up not being particularly groundbreaking in any one area, It'll probably still be a pretty solid shooter accessible to the more casual player. Or it may have more surprises than what we see in that trailer, who knows. That said, I'm not particularly excited about it either.

Also, it looks like the tower was shot with a missile or something, which is why it blows up what looks like too soon.

I don't get the hate really. Certainly looks better than COD / MOH / BF2 / Fallout. And those do pretty well.

It's ID, it's a shooter, you know what you're gonna get, although browsing the (very annoying) gameplay videos, it looks more 'RPG' that their usual stuff. Combat looks all right actually. Certainly more involved that their usual straight forward approach. But It's still a shooter at the core.
