I got beat up by a cop
Talk to the lawyer your friends suggested. My guess is that nothing will come from it all anyway, but at least by talking to a lawyer you'll get better legal advice than what you'll get from us.

[color=#1C2837][size=2]So what should I do?
[color=#1C2837][size=2]
[color=#1C2837][size=2]Nothing. Realize that there is always someone worse off than you and get on with your life.

Overall i feel like you're an asshole.
Fair enough, but since when is that illegal? It certainly didn't justify a punch to the head--assault is definitely illegal.
I'd press charges if him punching you/tackling you caused any significant injuries to cover medical expenses.
Unfortunately, I live in Canada and the government covered my hospital visit and CT.
However, I still have pain and difficulty chewing, even though it's several days later (not to mention the increased exposure to cancer-causing X-rays from the CT scan, and the public embarrassment of being put in handcuffs).
Then you try to escape into your house. At this point, what is the cop thinking? For all he knows, your buddies are in there. They might have guns. Is it a safe house?
I'm pretty sure that I wrote it was my fucking office building.
He catches you. He punches you. And he's completely justified in doing so. What would you have him do, try the peaceful route, just say "please stop running?". Oh wait, you had that chance. You didn't take it. You forced him to either subdue you the violent way, or else not do his duty as a cop.

Bullshit. I did not resist once he caught up to me.
The fleeing (and resisting) suspect was subdued by way of a single blow followed by a tackle.
I was fleeing, but stopped once he caught up and did not resist.
You are of course assuming the OP was being calm when he said what he said; if the OP was being a dick about it (and based on the starting post of this thread that's highly likely) then that reaction is likely.
I was quite calm. Even when he painfully twisted my arm to cuff me, I only said in as calm a voice as I could have "you're hurting me".
A complaint won't do anything but mark him to actually be harassed by cops in the future.
So I figured, but thanks for the tip. I'll consider legal action instead.

OP, you'll be a real POS if you decide to persue legal actions on this guy.
I actually have experienced police brutality by getting beat down by 5 officers, while in their custody in jail where they clearly knew I had no weapons. I weighed around 130lbs and these guys had to be at least 180lbs+ each.
You really should consider yourself lucky because he probably could have gotten away with beating you severely.

So after giving the officer reasonable grounds to suspect you were concealing a weapon, resisting arrest, failing to comply with verbal instructions, and probably giving the poor bloke a whack with the door you were taken down using non-lethal means so gentle they didn't even break the skin, then released with nary a caution to your name.
And you think you had it rough? You want to screw over the officer?
Shame wasting police time isn't more easily prosecuted.

Oh my. What is it that you don't understand? It's not illegal for him to punch you if you're running away from him and trying to avoid arrest by slamming a door in his face.
You need to grow up, and do it quick. I sincerely hope you will take legal action because then they'll all know what a jackass you are.

Just because your treatment was worse make mine good. there's no logic in that.

He had no right to arrest me in the first place because I had committed no crime. I don't know where you live, but in a civilized country arbitrary arrest is not accepted practice.Moreover, the office building is private property and he had no right to follow me in there.

Really?
I reached the door, swiped my fob and got in. I pushed the door to close it but the cop got there too fast and forced the door open.

Sounds like you tried to resist to me... what with the whole running away thing followed by trying to close a door in his face.

Oh really?
I pointed out I had not done anything illegal

So how did you say this then?
As for 'no right'; he detained (not arrested) you because you acted suspciously and tried to avade him. Upon discovering that you were just being a dick he let you go.
The ONLY person doing ANYTHING wrong here is you! You wasted police time by being a dick, the fact that you can't see this is utterly moronic.
Yeah dude, you are totally right. He had no right, no reason nor any logic with him. You acted within your rights, within reason and within logic. We all agree you should be showered with sympathy and the policedevil should be shunned and punished for his misdeeds. Woe, I say! To the fool who apologises, apology will not be given nor shared! A thousand posts of hate shall be typed against thou dwellers of the night; stalkers of the innocent-- cloaked in the guise of justice! Tonight is the night Gamedev stands for its rights! Tonight we fight for FREEDOM!
