Soo according to this arstechnica writer, DNF is gonna suck. The game was obviously bad enough that he spent a whole page writing about the strip joint instead. Maybe I'm speaking too soon, but ~5 years ago I called it.

The truth has to be told, however: the game simply does not look very good.
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/02/hand-on-duke-nukem-forever.ars/

Well I hope we all learned a lesson here.
It'd suck even if it was the coolest game of the year. You cannot expect to fulfill 15 (-/+) years of expectation just like that...

here a more positive review.
I like the Walrus best.

The video makes it look like a fun FPS with the Duke Nukem style. What more can one expect from such a game? Looks good!
There have only been a few dedicated people working on it since the 3D realms dropped the project. They deserve my support so even if the game sucks I'm still going to buy it.

Nailed it.

So there's the lesson. Don't blow your budget looking at porn all day when you should be producing a game.

Anyway. I'm sad. I really wanted this game to be awesome, but it looks like it won't. I really hope they prove me wrong. Maybe we'll just have to wait for DNF2 if there is such a thing.

Are you sure you don't mean ~10 years ago, because I'm sure we were calling it back then as well (isn't there a famous thread all the way back from the start of GameDev.net doing exactly this?). If a FPS takes more than three years to make there something seriously going wrong.

I'm not sure how much of the actual Duke Nukem Forever is from 3D Realms or from Gearbox. Gearbox have been working for a normal length development cycle, so I'm not going to lump them with the stigma of the development limbo the scrapped DNF had.

Still, I'm going to give the game a pass purely because it looks like it's staying true to the "humour" of Duke Nukem 3D - stuff I found cringe-worthy when I played DN3D as a teenager. I can get my 90s gaming nostalgia fix by playing Tales of Monkey Island.

If anything, that boss scene at the stadium looks good. Typical FPS boss confrontation but what the hell, that's exactly how it should look like :)

who gives a crap what one subjective reviewer thinks?

he doesnt break the gameplay down or give any real reason as to WHY it sucks. He just says "I dont like it" many times in different ways. Perhaps hes just a miserable sod. Could be that being negetive gets him more hits ffs.

That's actually just a repeat of the last level of Duke Nukem 3D.

I don't have much interest in it myself, unless there was a HQ PS3 release that had an active, loyal, MP community behind it with great game modes.
If they're not going for the 4D solution next time around, I'll just go back to playing Supaplex. Seriously - it's not that hard! 1) go to Walmart, 2) buy gun 3) mount gun on top of monitor 4) connect electronic trigger to USB port 5) enable force feedback in settings 6) start game.
