I have a dual boot system with XP and Ubuntu 10.something. While searching through the hidden directories, I notice a ".thumbnails" directory. It would seem that anytime an image is displayed anywhere in Ubuntu, a thumbnail is made and stored. A couple of hours browsing the web and there are more than 2000 thumbnails.
This is simply unnecessary and a waste of disk space. How do I stop this from happening?

Windows do exactly the same thing (thumbs.db files in all folders with images).
