Eventually I'd like to create my own complete website of projects, journals, and online applications. The purpose will be to show off not only my web design work, but also my knowledge of Java programming. I think it will help give me a little edge when applying for jobs.
Anyway, I've never uploaded or used Applets unto a webspace yet. So I am learning new things in regards to applets...and how picky Java can be.
With that being said, I'd very much appreciate it if as many people can test my applet and see if it runs. If it does not, if you could post the error, what browser you use and your current Java version.
Link to my temporary page: http://members.cox.net/ewinterstine/TestApplet.html
To easily find your Java version: http://javatester.org/version.html
Example from my work computer:
>Applet Run? No.
>Error: Load: Class carapplet.CarApp Not Found. (Common for older versions of Java)
>Java Version: 1.1.4 from Microsoft Corp.
>Browser: Internet Explorer 6, service pack 3.
Like I said, eventually I'll have a full site dedicated to my projects, works, and tutorials.
I appreciate everyone taking there time in this! Hopefully this applet works, I'll be embarrased!
Test My Applet Please
>Applet Run? yes
>Java Version: IcedTea6 1.9.4 (ArchLinux-6.b20_1.9.4-1-i686))
>Browser: Seamonkey 2.0.11

>Browser: Firefox 3.6.13

Exactly this for me as well.

Works for me in firefox, but for some reason there were only like 3 other cars at the very beginning, then they just stopped.
I've had the game minimized for 10 minutes and it's still driving, no other cars on the road, score 100,000 and counting. If this is supposed to be a traffic driving game you might want to see where the other cars went
(java is 1.6.0_17)

I've discovered that Java's built in random number generator class performs wildly differently depending on whether I run Windows, OSX, or Linux, but I never bothered to figure out why. I figure this is related to that.
That said, I'm pretty sure the game doesn't have collision detection, either.

The game is no where near finished yet. But after developing the another class, I wanted to make sure it worked thus far before continuing just in case I had to make significant changes.
Eventually, the cars seem to no longer exist, but they do...outside of the applet frame. Why? Eventually all other vehicles on the road will have the same speed as you, if you continue your speed and the cars are originally placed outside of the applet, you'll never see them or catch up to them.
I have been working more of the game, and it is obvious it will be eventually a "dodge 'em" type game where eventually you'll crash. There are also jumps to hit, more vehicles (trucks, limos, buses), and I'm hoping to incorporate AI for the cops to detect you speeding and chase you. I give it a week or so to complete.
I appreciate everyone's feedback thus far!
