One thing that seperates successful developers from non-successful developers is the bad ass-ness if their name.
always apply the term "The guys down at.."
i.e
"the guys down at bungie, or the guys down at epic." to see how the name rings. A common mistake among beginning developers is the lack of making something that sounds cool.
On a more serious note if the name doesn't sound marketable people won't take it seriously thus making it suck. Lol
How to know if your name sucks or not
Did you mean to post this random thought in your journal? This is the forums.
Also Bungie sounds cool to you because you know they make games. Much like Valve. I mean what kind of name is Valve?

Well, that's kinda BS IMO.
Is "id" a great company name? I dunno, but I'd say no. 1/2 people want to call it eye-dee, which does suck as a name. Is "Ion Storm" a great company name? Dunno, but it's kinda cool i guess.
But, I know which one makes great games and which one doesn't (or, as it were, didn't). [size=1]Bungie is a retarded name IMO, but they make good games.
The name of the company really means sh*t, it's all about the product. The people you're trying to market too want to see games, they could care less what the company name is.

i think Valve, iD, and Bungie sound cool anyway.
Bathesda sounds kind of dumb, and square enix probably would if they weren't already popular. Both make really sweet games though.
I'd propose you just think they're cool names because they're successful companies making stuff you probably like, or at least respect.
Few people have heard of my little piss pot firm and if I renamed it to "valve" and announced it here*, people would think the name sucks ass. Because it does.

* Assuming the other one didn't exist

Epic used to be called Epic MegaGames. To sound more mega and epic, since at the time it was one person shop selling shareware or something similar.
Bathesda
Bethesda.
square enix
Merger of Square Co. And Enix Co.

Would "Ideas from the Deep" sound better?

The people at ExpertSexChange.com thought so too...

As a kid, I didn't realize just how ridiculous their name was, and as an adult I kinda wish they'd kept it that way. Especially with the serious over-use of "epic" these days. Guess I"ll have to make my own company: Biblical UltraGames.
