Hi, i've bought a 8600 GT Silent (fanless) 1 year and a half ago and it suddently broken by itself just after chrismas, so i did what they suggested on they're site, i've bought it back where i purchased it, and the guy sended it back to is retailer, who should send it back to asus... Anyway he told me they weren't open till 3 of January and that it should take 10 days from this date to come back or have a replacement one. Now it's been 3 weeks and i haven't got it back yet. The worst part is that the guy tell me that they're is little he can do to know what's going on with it. I can't stay with my crappy integrated vid card forever...
Anyone got any experience with asus warrenty that can tell me if this is normal or not??
Thx for you're time.
Asus graphic card warrenty hell... plz help
Let me make sure I got it correct.
You took it back to the retailer and the retailer sent it to ASUS?
Are in USA? Different countries have different protocols for returns. I believe In UK you return broken items to the retailer no matter what.
USA you generally have 30 days to bring it back to the retailer. Not all retailers have this 30 policy and some might be longer. Generally ASUS will recommend trying the retailer first. After that it is on your responsibility to get it to ASUS for repair. I'm afraid you can't do anything if you gave it to your retailer. As for knowing what's going on, you won't. You have to take the retailers word for it, but take it with a grain of salt as they might be holding out on you to get you to buy a new part. You can ask the retailer for the RMA information so that you may check up on it.
If you personally shipped it to ASUS, I believe they quote a 10-14 day business day turn around time.
Another thing that holds this process up is the 8600GT is old. It hasn't been manufactured in a while. So there might not be anything to replace it with.

Thx for ur reply.
Well i spoken with my retailler today and it seem they had to ship it to USA, and i live in canada so that might take like 2-3 more weeks to get my repaired card or a new card if they can't repair it. At least he told me he's gonna lend me one tomorow, so at least im gonna be able to play wow and my other 'big' games with it while the card gets here. Never though it would be so long though...
