The new forums are worse than the old ones...

The site as a whole has more features but the forums are not as good as they use to be. I've been noticing it's a lot harder to get replies to specific questions after the new site. For instance I made a post about constants in 3DS Max which normally I would get a reply in a day or two but still no reply and only about 20 views. I believe since they dropped the recent threads box on the main page to the bottom it's less likely that someone who knows the answer will glimpse past the thread. Also the view counter takes days to update the views on some threads which is another little thing that is not as good as the old forums.
I have to agree. The site looks messy mainly because there are too many things fighting for information on the front page.

Gamedev.net was doing fine before the changes and people were happy with the layout. This is not the case after the changes. Therefore it is true to say that people want the layout back to the way it was: recent Forum posts at the top of the front page, less information pushed on them overall, and a theme that is not tacky and brash.

Why fix something that wasn't broken? Because it was an innefficient system in terms of development? Surely the current state of affairs is much less efficient, and provides much worse results...

because it WAS broken? they got hacked, and had tons of technical issues with the old page. remember when vbscript told us we're out of memory? it's not long back, and took quite a while to fix.

oh, and, this is not the place to request changes. feedback tab on the left, there is the place to do so.
If that's not the help you're after then you're going to have to explain the problem better than what you have. - joanusdmentia

I think that this is more due to the fact the site has been up and down like a yo-yo over the past few days. Give it time to settle in and we should be back into the same groove we were before.

Could this also be the reason that threads I post in are taking around 8 hours before they appear in My Content page? I have posted a feedback item about this but thought would post something on a thread as well.

Is anyone else having this issue? Gaiiden said something about reducing server load by having a delay and I appreciate that this may be, as dwarfsoft said, the site settling in, but I'm finding it very hard to track threads I'm involved in.

Other than that, I'm quite happy with most of the new site now I'm getting used to it. I'm not keen on the WYSIWYG editor but I've disabled it and have just been playing around with manual tags in my journal and we seem to have some big improvements there.
I don't mind the changes in general. But the recent threads page is awful! I want to see all recent threads, dating back several days. Not just the new, or replied to since my last visit. I have the habit of quickly pop in and have a glance at the recent threads to see if there's anything interesting popping up. But it's not always you have the possibility to read or reply to something right then.
With the old system you could just make a mental note there was something interesting you wanted to take a closer look at, and later you could just skim through the recent threads pages until you found it again.

Now you need to know what forum that thing was actually posted on in order to find it again, if you're not lucky enough that the thread is still active when you get back to it. I can't imagine it being a big thing to change either.

Let's keep this all in one place please.

Yes, this is the case. As we start seeing server load balance out and there are less crashes, we'll slowly start turning off some of the performance-saving measures we have in place right now.
