About spammers
In time the project grows, the ignorance of its devs it shows, with many a convoluted function, it plunges into deep compunction, the price of failure is high, Washu's mirth is nigh.

That answer's 42, right?
PS - that image has been downloaded (!) twice at the time of my writing this

GameDev, could you please just delete spammer accounts instead of marking them banned? There's no need to keep those useless usernames in your database...

Accounts that are marked as Spam actually retain information such as email address and IP address that are used to inform other IPS boards of spammer activity. By keeping the accounts we are helping others out, just as by other accounts keeping and marking their accounts as Spam we are also benefiting. There may need to be something done about the population of names though, however this may need to be managed by the IPS staff (maybe spam account names become available and that information is retained in another database field for the spammer account).
Question: how/where do I report spam? There's no longer a "report this post" button. Do I just PM a staff member?
There's some here, by this user.
By the way, there's a lot of weird stuff going on there..Under the article it says there are 13 comments, yet there's only one. The spammer's profile has a post count of zero, and his post tab doesn't list any content, but apparently there are still posts of him out there.

if you can't report a comment, then you should click through to the member's profile and you can report them there.
The lack of article comments showing is a known issue.
News comments, journal comments and article comments are not tied directly into the forums like they were in the old site, so they no longer contribute to post counts. Currently, at least. We don't mind that, but it does make it harder to moderate so we're hoping to fix that.
Fortunately so far this spamming only seems to affect links coming off the main pages, including the news, articles in the carousel and my journal.
Pinning this as well so other people can read what to do.
