Woo. Microsoft surface 2 looked awesome

I like that they made it only 4 inches now. Looks really sleek. Would be fun to program a game for that. I could see a lot of creative games that could exist on a touch screen that powerful.

If I had a home server then I'd gladly do it that way, sadly I do not.

change that, then.. :) get one.

Quote: I use DVDs mostly because of my existing DVD collection and I like the idea of being able to rent or borrow a movie while I'm out and about or not having to rely on needing an internet connection. I can see how you wouldn't need one, but for me it would takes me from insta-buy to buy if I have that much extra money.
i don't want to have to be connected to watch stuff / listen to music, too.. hate it.

Also, the new 2750p's are pretty hot too. I was drooling over those a bit ago. Is there word on if they'll have integrated graphics or a dedicated graphics chip? I know that was one thing that the TM2 had over the elitebooks so far.

as they're business, they'll be integrated only. then again, the new intel igp is awesome so it's not bad. i'm not much of a high-end-gamer anyways.

To me, CES = tourist season. So no, I'm not entirely excited for the additional traffic and general human congestion :-/
NVIDIA just announced they are developing ARM-based CPUs. Interesting times...

Are you serious? A DVD drive? Why would you want that in a device that's supposed to be portable... I hardly use mine in a desktop.

To watch movies or install software more easily?

edit: M$ keynote today at 9:30PM eastern time (10:30 my time D:). Being broadcast on microsoft's facebook page.

really? people still use dvds to watch movies from, especially geeky people? when i get a new movie, i come home, put it into my home server, and 15 min later, it's available on all my clients.

and software should never be installed from a dvd. install from an usb stick or the network, much faster (including os installations. windows up and running in 7 minutes).
Jeez, someone needs to get out in the real world more. You know what, people still listen to music on CDs and the radio as well!

i KNOW. it's TERRIBLE!!

i just don't expect people on these forums to still do that this way (and then want it to be possible in their ultra portables.. nobody uses cds in an ipod or some phone of choice. why on a small laptop? makes simply no real sense).

going digital removes much such barriers, and allows the portable devices be .. well .. portable :)

i btw moved away from cds and dvds now around 5 years ago. i only gained from it. it doesn't mean i don't have any, nor that i won't use them. but never directly.

faster os/app installations, music, videos automatically available on all devices, in all rooms, at the same time.

I don't want a tm2 for portability. I want it because it's a tablet with a wacom digitizer, which apparently is now the in thing to do as it looks like everybody and their mom's is now using wacom instead of the crappy digitizers they used to.

The tm2 was one of the first ones with a good digitizer and a decent amount of power for a reasonable price. edit: there were a couple before it, but they all got discontinued pretty quickly so they were often on old hardware, whereas the tm2 has been getting refreshed over the year since it launched with new processors etc.

Anyway, I would more than gladly make a media server for myself, but I'm saving as much money as possible atm because there is a 50% chance that I will have to relocate before the end of the year, so I'm trying to save money and have less enormous things to ship internationally. Rest assured it is on my to do list and has been for a while.

This looks cool, like it would be fun to program for:

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/06/razer-announces-switchblade-7-inch-pc-gaming-tablet-concept/

Malibal and Sager released laptops already with dual 485m's (fastest mobile GPU in existence) in them. (Not that I want two of them. One is fine). Now I have to play the waiting game to see when the Sandy Bridge socket motherboards are released and if they'll have desktop processors in the lineup. I imagine so since the SLI 485m laptops allow for the configuration of a 980x chip.
">Waiting really is the hardest part.
