I was looking at the concept arts in Fable 3 and Borderlands. Both of these have similarities in the styles the used. However I dont have anyclue as to what the specific style is called.
Any of you guys know what should be a good search text if I had to lookinto that style of art.
Thanks for reading.

Do you have links to the concept art?
I'm not sure of what the different styles are recently. If it's like most concept art recently, I'm not sure what the style is. They all have really similar styles lately, but I'm not sure of the style. They all look like really really well done 2D animation stills/cartoony.
Try googling concept art for fable 3 or borderlands. The styles may look similar but they specifically belong to a genre. I am not much into these names.
They are more akin to asterix and obelix style of cartoons.

The problem I'm having is that most modern styles don't really have names until a long time after they are established. I'm not really aware of any current styles that have names that fit the description, but I am very aware of the visual style that you are talking about.
Maybe comic art?
But there are various visual styles used in comics itself. Comic art is in itself very diverse. Take the example of Manga. There should be a name that could define that style I mentioned. I m still googling.

I haven't played Fable 3, but played Borderlands pretty steady for a while. When I first started playing I remember noticing that the art was very unique and different from most games. After mentioning it to my friend, he said that it's the 'cartoony' style art, and everything is outlined in black lines. Go to Google images, and search for Borderlands, then do a search for Family Guy. you'll notice that everything is outlined. I think that has a lot to do with it.
Also, after looking at some images on Google, it appears that Fable 3 only uses that style for their concept art, and not in the actual game? Borderlands uses that style in the game as well, making for an interesting environment (even the hills in the background are outlined in black).

I haven't played any of the games but watched gameplay videos. Another game that comes to my mind is Team Fortress which uses cell shading as Borderland does. I looked up Filmy Guy, but this style is quite different from what I was expecting.
I am more concerned about the character concept arts. All of these games has a special feel to it. And yes they all use very thick outlining borders, and are very cartoon-ish.

The Crackdown games have a similarly stylized look as Borderlands, so they may be worth looking at.
Borderlands and Crackdown use a form of cel shading. Borderlands goes a step further with hand painted textures to give it that comic book look.

It's kind of a caricature style - a western style, maybe with Dutch roots, halfway between realism and cartoon. If I was going to name that style I'd call it "homely" but I don't know if it actually has a name.
I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
