So I guess some people have heard of Assassin's Creed having a new multiplayer mode, which does look amazing, but does anyone feel that the inability to actually defend yourself against assassins who are after you feels a bit limiting?

Quote: Rather than a free-for-all deathmatch where everybody is a target, Brotherhood's multiplayer allows you to kill only those enemies that you're specifically assigned to. A picture on your HUD lets you know who your target is, and a compass at the bottom of the screen tells you where he's located.
Sounds just like "The Ship", and The Ship was pure awesome. Except in the ship you were allowed to kill both your target and your assassin, but you had no way of being sure who your assassin was, which made for some awkward elevator rides as people eye each other off and decide whether they're about to get shanked.
Quote: Once ... your target is alerted, and you then have a limited amount of time to chase him before you lose the mission.
From the sounds of this, your defense is to flee.

You can flee if you are alerted by the assassin, meaning that the other guy screws up. Other than that, if your assassin is successful, then you have a quick time button press you can do, which is usually too quick for anyone to actually be able to press. I'm not sure if this defense will work, but the fleeing part could work.

It sounds right on to me. Assassination isn't typically done via drawn-out and flashy combat. That said, I don't know exactly how the gameplay will work so it could still end up sucking.

But you're also an assassin after someone else, so who is being limited? Everyone is in exactly the same position at all times.

If you could fight your hunter openly the game would just devolve into a bunch of people having fights in the streets, and all strategy would disappear.

Also, Assassin's Creed combat was never designed for one-on-one combat. It would suck. Every time they try it, it sucks. Add latency and it would suck a thousand times worse.

The thing is that it seems almost impossible to stop an assassin that is about to kill you, but I guess that's pretty accurate. It just seems a bit hard to avoid your hunter.
