Trollololo
How am I trolling?
I try to follow the forum rule of "assume good faith" - meaning that if someone posts something that sounds rediculous, you should assume that you've misinterpreted them, instead of making a counter-post pointing out how dumb they are...

In the case of this thread, the best thing that I can assume that's going on here is trolling. If I wasn't assuming that you were having a good old crack at trolling, I'd be putting you in the basket with the "I want to make a MMO with HTML and variables" camp, which is much, much worse.
I <3 this thread.

If you want to do some serious brain experiments, start with the non-invasive kind first. At least you'll survive it when something goes pear shaped. And please, leave the poor animals alone.

I bet I could drill a hole in my head right now with a hand drill and I could managed to do it without killing myself

Honestly I find this thread rather amusing.
But since I can't take you seriously here, I won't be serious either. :D

Edit:
Maybe googling for Electrical engineering, Neural networks, Neuroscience, Computer science will give you a good starting point.

Or go to university and study any of those fields and find a professor who will help you assemble a team to experiment with this on a smaller scale.

Does the mad scientist act work well as a pickup line?
I haven't had time to fully digest samoth's posts, but apparently SteveDeFacto's brain is full of liquor. If this is the case, then he may have an easy in with the ladies.

The brain is full of a sort of liquor, namely "liquor cerebrospinalis", a.k.a. "cerebrospinal fluid", and Samoth's point was that it's quite lethal to contaminate this liquid, so even if you do survive the immediate implantation, you'd probably have to deal with an infected brain. Not that it would make a huge difference in the case of the OP... perhaps only add to the experience.
It is I, the spectaculous Don Karnage! My bloodthirsty horde is on an intercept course with you. We will be shooting you and looting you in precisely... Ten minutes. Felicitations!

Darn. I was hoping the brain was filled with a different sort of liquor, tequila.

Would make for a rather different kind of zombie invasion,...

No need to drill holes in your head if your looking for a way to get direct digital <-> neural interface.. The human eyes are probably the highest bandwidth sensory channel in the human body.. they are close to the brain and heavily myelinated..

Only problem is they dump their input directly into the visual cortex which prefilters them into what we perceive to be "visual" stimulus.. However that is not a problem, the latest research in neural research shows that regions of the brain can be disrupted using short pulses of magnetic flux.. so if you shutdown the visual cortex and then feed the eyes raw digital information i bet that stuff will get to the neo-cotex and then the real "magic" happens..

Now you need a way to read out neural output.. lucky we also have a commercially available technology (Emotiv EEG headset), though somewhat limited but with enough processing you can probably extract the needed signals.. That should complete the information loop from machine <-> mind..

It's only a matter of time until someone does this..

Enjoy!

Would LSD not help to reroute inputs, so that you could use your nose to see your environment?
