I can''t suggest any free ones except blender which IMHO is not easy to learn without any docs.

I suggest you look at nendo - do a google search for nendo, IMHO it was very easy and good.

Otherwise 3d studi max is probably the best.

BTW since how long has your game magazine been there :-)
