About:

This is a multiplayer game converted from single player. I want to know whether the rules of this game is too complicated and whether the game is too difficult to play.

Special note:

This Flash game is designed to be played using gamepads like a console game, although you could also play the game as player 4 on a keyboard.

Description:

Title: Alley 13
Genre: Pattern Puzzle, Multiplayer (1-4), Competitive or Cooperative

Instructions:

Play:
[ v.2010-09-14-03 (Flash)]

Multiplayer Keystroke Mapping:
To play the game as a multiplayer game you need gamepads. The keys you need to map for each players are:

Player 1: [Space] [A] [E] [1] [5]
Player 2: [Space] [F] [J] [2] [6]
Player 3: [Space] [C] [G] [K] [3] [7]
Player 4: [Space] [D] [H] [L] [4] [8]

Is the game too hard? Is the description too complicated?

way too hard (to understand). at first i could not even get the game to start (maybe "press space to start" would be good info). then I had no idea what I was supposed to do (no I don't read). you need a quick and easy introduction to the game, that can be skipped if you want to. I would not have skipped that, but as mentioned, I don't read.

Thanks, here are the changes:

Changes

o Added mandatory instructions in game
o Change the word on the title page from "Start" to "Enter"
o Made the first two levels easier
o Added additional keys for someone to play as single player on keyboard

New keys:
[Enter] [Z] [Up] [Down]

When the player starts the game by clicking or by hitting [Enter] key, the game assumes that the player is playing on a computer and shows the instructions for keyboard. Otherwise, if the player starts the game by pushing the [Start] button on the gamepad (i.e. by pushing the [Space] key), the game shows the instructions for gamepad.

I always forget the keys in the middle of the game,
maybe you can show a little key-remember during the gameplay?

and in the 3^ level (I suppose it's the 3) I suddenly die: a foot appair I die.
and when a foot is going out from the screen I cannot see the foot color.
I usually use just LEFT and RIGHT key, when I have to use UP and DOWN? have I to press them together?

Instructions:
You could bring up the instructions during a game by pressing [Enter].

When a foot is off the screen
If your sound is on, when the foot takes a step off screen you can still hear the footstep. You cannot see its color, but you can either take a guess or let the bell ring.

Level 3 and up:
Starting Level 3, the third and fourth footprints would appear. So the four possibilities are:
o Red
o White
o Red with white heel
o White with red heel

When to use the UP DOWN keys:
You can always use them if you can remember the color of a foot before it moves. So for example, if:
Step 1) Left foot: Red
Step 2) Right foot: White
Step 3) Left foot: Red (Now you can hit [UP] because the color on the left is still Red)
Step 4) Right foot: Red (Here you can hit [DOWN] because the right foot changes color)

Also, since in Step 3 the left and right feet have different color, it is also correct to hit the

key. Using the [UP] key correctly gives you 7 points. using the

key correctly gives you 2 points.

Similarly, for Step 4, you can also hit the

key because the colors of both feet are the same. In this case,

key gives 5 points and [DOWN] key gives 3 points.

Updates:

I was testing the game again with other people and it is considered to be too hard. So here are the changes I made to build up the challenge. The foot steps are faster each level.

Level 1: Player starts with 23 points.
Level 2: Player starts with 0 point.
Level 3: The third footprint appears.
Level 4: The fourth footprint appears.
Level 5: Player starts with -5 points.
Level 6: Player must get exactly 59 points to win.
Level 7: Player starts with -39 points.
Level 8: Normal.
Level 9: Normal with occassional cat sound.
Level 10: Normal with a mirror in the middle.
Level 11: Normal but only one foot is shown at a time.
Level 12: Player starts with -23 points.
Level 13: Normal.
