Demon's Souls is the answer to your prayers. Mount & Blade is good but a 1v1 is always too easy and you can't fight effectively against a 3v1 without some cheap tactics.

+1 vote for demons souls. I didn't know if you had a PS3 though.

Die by the Sword.

That was actually a pretty cool idea with a kind of shotty implementation. You control the sword arm explicitly which is neat.

Agree. I never became proficient. It's a good case study, though. (And probably much more doable now with motion technology.)
You either believe that within your society more individuals are good than evil, and that by protecting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible, or you believe that within your society more individuals are evil than good, and that by limiting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible.
Sounds like you want the action brawler genre.

Bayonetta
God of War
Devil May Cry
Demon's Souls
Ninja Gaiden

Also, next time you ask for game recommendations, please list what platforms you have. PC is a little lacking in brawlers although IIRC you can get DMC3 & 4 on PC.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into those.

I have a PC and Xbox 360. I denfinitely will include that info if there is a next time.
Man, I see all these third-person shooters going 2 to 4 player co-op. I really wish I saw more of the same with third-person action/adventure melee based games. The only recent one I've seen do this is Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. I imagine the new Golden Axe could of easily implemented 4 player.
I'm not sure if it would be considered good, because it mostly boils down to timing button presses, but Batman: Arkham Asylum was pretty amusing.
Mount & Blade: Warband. SP & MP alike (though MP encourages the more advanced melee combat, vs SP AI you can get away with Oblivion style fighting).

That game also is interesting in other respects (e.g. fairly dynamic world despite being an RPG).
