I didn't really notice until today how good the gd.net community is compared to other sites. I posted a css issue on the forums.asp.net site (assuming the community there would be slightly better than this one for web related issues since this is more of a game dev site) the beginning of last week and still haven't gotten a decent answer.

The thing that I really noticed though was that on that site I've had multiple people suggest the same thing (hours or days apart), or reply with answers not relevant. It is almost like they don't read what anyone has already responded with. There has been a couple times where I could have replied with this in a post "yea, John Doe already suggested that, and I've already tried it, read the above posts".

Maybe I'll post my problem on the web dev section here to see if I get better results...

I guess what I'm trying to say is thanks gd.net for not being morons, haha.

Any one else had experiences like this with other sites? Or is it just my bad luck?

Well... gamedev.net has had its fair share of idiotic users. (cocopuffs and ababaraba1, to name a few)

Most of the members here are quite friendly and are quite helpful. You can definitely tell the differences in other forums.

We've all been sharpened by years of peer abuse.

Gamedev forums is totally up in the 'top tier', from what I've seen. Only other forum that I don't dread is the ubuntu forums.

Microsoft XNA forums are really the worst.

GDNet is the New York of forums to me. It has it's share of assholes, but said assholes seem to really know their stuff. I wonder if it's just a personality one develops after so many years in the industry? [lol]

I keep coming back because I can rely on quick, solid answers and a community who isn't afraid to verbally knock stupidity right out of me. Although I wish some users and mods here will die in a ditch for using ad hominum, I can't say some good has not come out of their input.
