Quote:Original Post by Yahoo! "Saying to a senator you can't bring up your amendment is like saying to your 5-year-old son, 'OK, Johnny, whatever you do, don't touch the stove.' Johnny is going to spend the whole next week trying to figure out a way to touch the stove," said Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander, No. 3 in the Republican Conference.
"So if you tell some senator, 'You can't bring up an amendment' — he's going to spend the whole next week trying to figure out how he can [bring] it up," Alexander said. "If he knew or she knew that they can have the amendment if they really wanted, they probably would relax and the amendment would go away."
One, I can't believe he just tried to compare Senators to 5-year olds and tried to pass that as a valid justification for their actions. Two, the second paragraph is BS. Pure and simple.
The country is not being run by 5-year olds. They aren't running the country at all. The running of our country is being blocked by 65 year old 5-year olds. Don't kid yourself, as bad as things may be, a coup d'etat would not improve things, it would only unleash a reign of terror. The suggestion isn't funny or justified.

I thought the coup d'etat took place after the 2000 election. So it's way too soon already. But maybe you could do with pruning out some branches of the government, as well as relocating some extreme religious communities and politicians to some far away place, say Greenland or Antarctica.
It is I, the spectaculous Don Karnage! My bloodthirsty horde is on an intercept course with you. We will be shooting you and looting you in precisely... Ten minutes. Felicitations!
Well, China is going to take over your country before the middle of this century is reached anyway, so I guess you don't need to worry about whether politicans are 5 year olds or not. You won't live anyway. They've been working on this for the last 30+ years, and it's inevitably going to happen.
And sadly, the same thing will happen in Europe too.
OMG. Something banal happened in country most of us here don't live in. Please, post more crap about the minutae of US politics, titling it like GD is an American-only site. Such cultural arrogance...
It's not only your country. It's spreading , and now it's here also. Looking at this problem, would it not be better to spread the power, not in one centre, but spread over an entire country. Power to a small minority is asking for trouble. Even if this is strictly speaking 'democracy'. But, it seems, there is no control anymore over the highest power themselves. (this is also a spiritual remark).

It's a safe assumption... the list puts us at about 42% of the registered users with location data. Feeling a bit grumpy? It's only the lounge.
it doesn't have to do much with 5 year olds, though.. it's basic human behaviour, and a basic way to motivate someone: telling him he's not allowed to, or incapable to do something motivates them to prove otherwise. it just sounds bad here, but it works well enough. why not put it to good use?
