After a year, I moved into development for the same company.

I guess it's a rather unorthodox route for one to take.

My first programming job (shrinkwrap software) I got by knowing someone, albeit indirectly (I got my first internship at the company by knowing someone, and was hired back a few years later full-time).

At my current game development job I knew nobody when I started.
