Hiya!

I am searching for a new laptop, probably 17" and a good graphics card to be able to play recently new games, you know something that one can say hey this can actually play a game.

I've seen quite a few that pack quite the gpus in comparison to the ones I was checking a couple of years back but I still think there's a catch even to these new machines, so if someone can point a finger to a relatively good gaming laptop, don't need a powerhouse, even though I did give a look to the alienware ones but thats what desktops are for, lets say one that maybe can play Settlers VII and Spore :)

Thanks!
Look into the Asus G-series laptops. I currently own a G50vt and it's been a great laptop so far after almost a year and a half of use(and still quite capable).

I think the G7x are the newest out there.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I was researching laptops, but I'm currently waiting for the prices to drop. Currently the cheapest and most powerful laptop I've seen has been from sager.

However, anything from 4 years ago can play Spore and Settlers VII fine. I mean my laptop is 4.5 years old and it played Spore easily.

17" Sager

Honestly I'd get the NP9285 with the 980x (hex-core processor, first/second best consumer processor depending on the benchmark used) the 480m GPU (best nvidia mobile GPU) and the 80 GB SSD and maybe a storage drive. You can get a dual 480m laptop, but don't get pulled in by the hype. Probably the best dragtop made currently though. (Better than eurocom at least). :P
Well I want to spend moderate money and for sure I don't want the best laptop around. Something about less than 1000 pounds (currently in UK), the thing is I got a laptop as a present 2 years ago and even though it was overally good newer games are not its thing. Now I want a laptop that can play moderately all games 17" always :)
That's why I suggested a 4K USD aka £2700 dragtop. You'd be able to play every current game and then also Crysis 2 and all those fun games coming out in the future. (The 980x itself is future proof technically given that it's performance is on a level unmatched my dual or quadcore processors). Kind of have to put it in perspective. Do you want something you can use for 5 years or maybe more or something that's already outdated and will need to be replaced soon. Also you need a DirectX 11 card anyway. (ATI offers a cheaper card by the way. You can get dual of them in a laptop now if you look around).

Then again if you're only willing to spend 1500 dollars you might look into a desktop. You can build a top of the line desktop for that amount.
:D

I have a top line desktop at the moment, I am actually searching a laptop for my girlfriend, she moves a lot but her current laptop is crap and she can't play games. That's why I am not looking for the best laptop around but one that can play stuff even if moderately it'd be much better than her current one which can't even play Sims3 :P

Ah that makes a lot more sense now. Also yeah she probably wouldn't be able to carry a 12 pound (5.5 kg) laptop anyway. >_>

Look at the 15.6" Lotus laptop then. It has a good price and awesome hardware and is light. Should be perfect for her since it's almost 17".
The Dell Studio range has some decent discrete graphics options, and they are thoroughly mid price range. Also they are still laptops, rather than semi-portable hobs.

Well I got a laptop in Radioshack and it's pretty good IMHO.

Gateway NV54:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit;
4 GB RAM;
320 GB Hard Drive;
Intel Pentium processor. T4400. 2.20 GHz;
15.6" HD LED LCD;
$404.95 inc. tax!

Should be able to play games ;P I got mine on offer though so I got about $150 of it so...

My wife has an HP dv4T1000 (I think it is 1000 - definitely dv4) and it plays sims3 perfectly. These days, I'd say go with any laptop that has an intel core i3 processor. Intel's graphics capabilities have significantly improved lately, but both dell and HP offer other graphics options if you'd prefer.
