1. Convert to iPod/iPhone App
2. ???
3. Profit

your welcome
iPhone already has an alarm clock.

iPod touch and iPad are missing it though (sadly, it's such a great default app).

1. :(
2. is it a good one? I know I've wanted a better one for my blackberry, but I'm too lazy to use anything other than the default.

Thinking on it, if pandora added alarm clockability to its apps I would be sold.
I actually had a related idea to hook a doorbell up to my music library. I'd have a list of 7 second "tones" which are slices of mp3's from my library. A ring of the bell would play one of them at random.

At first, I thought to just randomly select an mp3 and play a few seconds of it. But with my luck, it'd play the intro to "More Human Than Human" by White Zombie for exactly the wrong person...

Moe, what did you mean by expensive Sony?

Mine is RM 80, which is around USD 25. The reason I bought this is I'm tired of RM 10 alarm clocks, which don't even last 6 month. The reason is that they mechinically cheap and have too much tiny parts.

This one is digital alarm clock + radio in one. It great at having a 'sleep' button. pressing this will swithc on the radio for one hour I think (I listen to Light n Easy, a Malaysian radio show), which is good.

I remember there are other Sony alarm clock types, but this one is good enough for me.

I can't remember the model number, but Sony recently came out with a sort of Alarm clock device. It had a small LCD screen on it (maybe in the 7" range). I think it was well over $100 - closer to $200.

EDIT: Here it is.

Both already exist. Philips makes alarm clocks that slowly light up he room. A Chumby can wake you while displaying twitter feeds, e-mail, of even hypnotoad.

You wouldn't happen to have any more info on the Philips model, would you? That, and Chumby isn't available outside the U.S., or so I thought.

way2lazy2care already posted about the Philips wake-up light. As for Chumby, a couple of friends here in The Netherlands have one, so they surely are available outside the US. You can order through chumby.com for one.

I'm curious how you did this. Can please elaborate?

How do you set the RTC to wake up a computer at a certain time? What OS are you using?
In Windows, use the Task Scheduler ("Scheduled Tasks" on pre-Vista versions of Windows). Set a task to run a selected program at a specified time and ensure that "Wake the computer to run this task" is ticked ("Conditions" tab in Vista). If you hibernate your PC (or put it in standby, but that still uses some power - a hibernated machine is fully powered down) rather than shutting it down it will switch on at the required time and run your program.

Something about those still just doesn't do it for me. I still think that there is some work that could be done in the field of alarm clocks.

A Chumby classic does look about like the best alternative at this point, but it still lacks a few things that could make it that much more interesting. From the dimensions listed on the website it seems pretty small. Something a little bit bigger (say, a 7" screen instead of 3.5"), but with the same sort of build (durable plastic with soft sides), and a proximity sensor. I think it'd be pretty cool to have an alarm clock use a proximity sensor so that it can tell when you are up and moving, as opposed to still lying in bed after hitting the snooze a few times.
