No, it's quite immature to copy ones work. They need to grow up and face the consequences of building an ip from the ground up.

Are you applying that logic to any AAA project that secures the rights to produce an IP that wasn't originally their's?

When they started, I would agree with this, since they didn't have the rights to release it. But they did manage to secure the rights from the IP holder (something, which in its own rights is pretty amazing).

I wish they would've kept to their guns. This will continue to encourage the lack of creativity within the community.

thats a bit harsh, no?

Why is it OK for me to write this post in the same language as you, but it wouldn't be OK for me to write a game set in the same world as yours?

Good stuff, I found this thread after reading the linked article, I remembered the thread about the C&D order a while ago.

I don't see why anybody would have anything against a fan project that made it this far. This is a win win, for the devs and fans alike. It's not a rip in the sense of the word, uncaring IP holders only stiffle originality (GameCreator and superpig summed up the gist of it nicely). Great reboot for a golden olden!

Activisions bad rep FTW!

Anybody know if/where the demo is still available, 11 days is just way too long.

Maybe they are immature... And perhaps the act of making a game based on somebody else's work will help them get the experience and skills they need to make their own IP.

Your idea that a team doing a remake or a mashup or a fan-sequel or anything like that is not adding value to the world, and is not a creative endeavour, is ridiculous.

Copyright laws are there to protect the interests of original IP owners. They're sure as shit not to protect the world from remixes, or protect artists who might make them from themselves.
