Building sandbags . fences in a fps ?
I am a keen gamer of games such as battlefield 2 and battlefield bad comany 2 and i think these games would be even better where you would be able to build sandbags and fences and defences etc anywhere on the map , would that be hard to implement in to a game as if i was gonna make a war type fps i would defiently have sandbag and fence building etc , anyone seen this in a online fps before?
:)
Yes, the A.C.E 2 mod for ArmA2 does it. It shouldn't be more difficult than implementing any other game object.
Why do you think that you would have trouble implementing this?

I remember using them in Desert Combat Extended (BF1942 Mod), and they weren't perfect. You really need a decent interface for them to control where they actually go.

Ive played desert combat bf1942 mod and dont remember that you could build sandbags or fences , they were always part of the scenery as a static mesh..

Desert Combat Extended was a modification of desert combat which tried innovative things.
The only issue with placement of items like this is it could totally change the flow/pacing of the map you're on which may be a good or a bad thing. If you have something like Halo's Forge editor where you build your map and publish it, it would practically be modding which is fine since once the map is out that static geometry is there. However if you have them dynamically placed during a match there are an impossible combination of design issue that will go along with it.
I think it's a neat idea, but most online shooters have levels setup a specific way that have been fine-tuned to have bottle necks and areas where players will come together and there will be battles that play out over and over. There are multiple designers that pour over these levels day after day tweaking each corridor and room on the map.
Even balanced maps seem to become unbalanced once little things are figured out through hours of playing, I can't imagine how unbalanced it would be if you could run up to the most powered weapon in a map and throw a wall around it so only your team got it.
Plus, when would I have time to make sandbags, I have my hands full with placing teabags.
