Hello,
I am creating tile able textures for a game, and I was hoping you all could give me some feedback. Below are two of my latest creations, I think they look pretty good, but a lot of you have been doing this for much longer then me and can probably help me improve. So please feel free to post some constructive criticism.
Worn Tiles
Worn Bricks
FYI: I do plan to use shaders at a later date (I am still figuring out how to work all that).
What do you think of these textures?
I think if would better if you posted screenshots of the textures in use...
The scenes which will use these textures have not been modeled yet. Would you suggest I put them on a sphere or something?
On the worn bricks texture, the shapes and coloring look pretty good to me; I would, however, recommend adding a bit more dirt and a few more scratches here and there and, depending on whether you'll be using normal maps or not, perhaps some highlights to give the individual bricks a bit more depth.
As for the worn tiles though...it really just looks like a mosaic tiles filter was applied. While I guess it kind of depends on what you want to texture with it, I can't really see it looking good in any sort of realistic architectural setting. Honestly, I'd recommend you start over on the worn tiles texture; begin with the basic tile pattern you want, and build up the wear and tear around the shapes' edges from there.
Also, as a side note: for this sort of texture I would recommend testing with either a plane or a box instead of a sphere; if for no other reason, it at least makes it more convenient to see how well your texture will tile. Some of that may just be my personal preference though.
At any rate, I hope this feedback was somewhat helpful.

There is a slight problem with the worn bricks texture. The very center vertical column of bricks has extra wide mortar on each side of the bricks. This causes a very noticeable discontinuity in the image. When tiled, this will stand out. There is no way to eliminate repetition in a tiled image, but things like this make the repetition more pronounced.
No, I am not a professional programmer. I'm just a hobbyist having fun...
Alright thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I have some more work to do, but it is good to know I did something right.
As for the worn tiles I did just apply that filter to a stone texture I did. I thought maybe I could get two textures for the work it took to do one, guess I was wrong lol.
