Weird unknown device thing

One of my friends found this, and we have no idea what it is. The diameter is smaller than a button, and it's about half an inch tall. It screws apart in the middle, where two watch-battery size batteries go. Under the bottom battery is a magnet, which makes the whole thing magnetic. When you screw it together with batteries, one of the three symbols lights up blue, and blinks on and off. A bit too bright to be a stealthy tracking device. My friend said that at one time, the other side lit up red, and the lights alternated back and forth.

Sorry, these pictures are blurry. The middle picture on it looks like a rectangle with 4 lines coming up from it. The top three triangular symbols are all very similar.

Does anyone know what this thing is?
And it isn't a fridge magnet, is it? That's what it looks and sounds like to me.

It looks like a muffin. I could have a muffin right now...
[size="2"]I like the Walrus best.
Looks kinda like those little party novelty LED thingies.

Like the Psycholight things halfway down this page

a "Psycho-strobe"...Pretty sure that is what it is, or something very similar. Turn it on by screwing it together. Blue lights flashing in sequence with red on the other side. Even has the magnet inside, and weird "psycho" shapes. :P

EDIT: forgot to add the link :P

MSW might be on to something there, it might be a throwie.

...Either that or the FBI wants their bug back...
its a fairy cupcake
to take a photo of something close set it to macro mode (usually designated with a picture of a tulip)

It is hiding in plain sight. Your being watched, GET OUT NOW!

Looks like an MZ-019, asset tracking device. It is suppose to light up when the transceiver is in close proximity, (less than 10m) to aid target acquisition for swap out agents (those following a person who were not there on initial contact, used to avoid the target cluing in to they're being followed. After all if you never see the same people behind you, then they're not following you,...) So that means there must be some agents with a transceiver rather close by. Your "Friend" isn't into any illegal matters that might draw international attention, is he?

Actually I'm going with it being a fridge magnet, the MZ-019 is thinner, and a little wider, and the light is actually infrared.

Would be weird to have a spy transmitter blinking like an apocalyptic freak show.

Hmm, maybe a bit of reverse-psychology at play... Watch out!

Everything is better with Metal.

And especially one where you have to supply the batteries yourself for it to work... On the other hand, maybe that's a new FBI cost reduction policy.
