Run to live!

Yup - summer's coming up (except for you Aussies and such, so you're in a barney) and in just a few measly months girls will be all topless and one can stay outside overnight, drinking cold beer without freezing over, and Leno's calcic heart will, hopefully, finally melt and mutate into a human form. Naturally, this requires some preparation in the form of sports to get some circulation going and avert some of the potentially awkward effects of increased beer consumption and littoral exposure. Most people do something. Many prefer to pay for exerting themselves. I prefer to jog. Since the economic crisis is in its final phase and happy times are about to ensue once more, I propose a joint GameDev sports effort to celebrate it! In good Unesco spirit I'm calling it: Run To Live Yeah! The objective is very simple: set a target distance and a target time over the next month and... achieve it! For instance: right now my jogging rounds are 3km in 13 minutes, average speed being 3.8 m/s, or 13.8 km/h. I will set my objective to run 10km in 35 minutes by June 6. The objective should be a sustained distance over a sustained time (that is, not a one-time all-out suicidal thing). So, who's in? Yeah! Here's how it works: I create a table and update it, say, every week so everyone who posts their progress in this thread can compare themselves against everyone else. All you have to do is time and measure your lap and post an update here every Sunday (the upcoming one being the 'now' one).

                         NOW W1 W2 W3 OBJECTIVE

Legend: 'distance in km/time in minutes/avg speed in kph'. PS - if you want to do your own miles to kilometers conversion, use the Google calculator (type in "n miles in km"). So - turn that frown upside down, watch some Forrest Gump, get your buff off that chair and start running! Yeah! [Edited by - irreversible on May 7, 2010 9:17:18 AM]

Of course this is stupid. However, I'm going to do this anyway so I thought why not add some online drama to it.

Ooooooor - you're too chicken to participate :D (j/k)

Yup.
But hunger and despair takes away 3.

I won't run, but I will drink bear, do stuff with girls, and swim. If I survive unemployment until the Golden Age.
At the weekend I slightly drunkenly told someone that I'd run the London marathon next year, if they ran it too.

I'm kind of banking on them forgetting, or otherwise bailing out, but just in case I should probably get a bit of training in. I haven't done much running this year - I'll go for a run tonight to see where I am and figure out a reasonably achievable target later.

BTW, my "NOW" time measures my way home, walking.

Here's what I say to you - and you better read this carefully, 'cause I'm writing this only once: the race is on, baby! Yeah! :D

Cake or Death?

I didn't even know Eddie did that until just a few weeks ago. My sister had one of his stand-ups on DVD and we loved it. We actually just saw him live last summer in Hollywood, but he was dressed more 'normal' (jeans and a jacket...no dress or makeup). You can tell he's lost some weight if you look at him now compared to some older stand-ups.

Ummm... cake, please!

Yeah, he's brilliant. He doesn't do as much cross-dressing on his latest show, Stripped. Incidentally, it's also the most boring one he has (he's recycled a lot of stuff from his previous shows). Check out his earlier work, notably Glorious, Sexie and Dress To Kill, in addition to Definite Article (which AFAIR the cake bit is from).

And I agree - he's a true original. Then again, I'm very selective about political and social satire, which most comedians seem to dwell on, with only Carlin (RIP) and Jon Stewart making the cut. Chris Rock is okay, I guess, but I really do think much of the rest of the crowd come hardly close to Izzard's level of originality and uniqueness in their presentation.

I first heard about the run he did a few months ago and TBH I was stunned. I mean - my body just breaks down after 3 miles. He ran 30+ miles a day for more than one and a half months straight. Made me reconsider my understanding of what's possible and what's not.
It seems we're going to run out of cake at this rate!

I think the one we saw in Hollywood was Stripped. It did have some stuff that was recycled, but I've seen comedians with far worse overlap.

I think I've seen almost all of his stuff, but some of them have been a few years ago. His stuff is very original, and I love the way he incorporates so much history and biblical references in his work. It's almost like watching the History channel and a comedy at the same time. He's definitely in my top 5 comedians.

Anyways, sorry for hi-jacking your thread...I think I'll go start a comedians thread.
