In response to number 2, why not talk to the publishers of the Sams Teach Yourself series?

Here are some sketches of the blades for the bladed weapons. I want to know what you think about their looks.

My answer is b, d, and e. BTW, I entered two manga-based game ideas on the INTEL Adrenaline contest. I'm probably not going to get far enough to require a executable of the game, but it doesn't hurt to be prepaired.

Sorry to bring up boring IP stuff again, but:

d. You further agree and warrant that you shall not submit any contribution:
• that is known by you to be confidential, false, inaccurate or misleading;
• that shows another person but yourself or an image created by another person if you submit any photos;
that infringes any third party's copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights or rights of publicity or privacy;

I'd really suggest working on your own IP. It gives you much more freedom creatively and avoids the legal minefield of intellectual property rights.

Can we please forget the stupid trademarks, copyrights, or whatever. The reason I started this thread was not to talk about intellectual rights. If I wanted to talk about that, I would have started a thread about legal rights in a different forum. This is a game design forum. SO GET BACK ON TOPIC!!!!!!!!!!!

Correct, this is a game design forum, complete with its own how to manual.
You either believe that within your society more individuals are good than evil, and that by protecting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible, or you believe that within your society more individuals are evil than good, and that by limiting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible.

First of all, you don't own this thread and you have no particular authority to dictate its direction; this is a discussion community, and discussions have a life of their own.

It is the job of the moderators and/or staff to police threads for egregious off-topic violations, et cetera, and the proper means for you to report this is to flag the posts you believe to be offending via the "flag this post" button at the bottom of each. Not to whine about it in-thread -- so don't do that again.

We are (most of us) game developers and our living is to a degree dependent on the protections provided to our creations via IP laws. Thus many of us have a respect for them above and beyond the fact that it is simply the law, even if we may disagree with aspects of it at times.

If this has not already been linked, I recommend you read this.

The flip side of that is that we are not particularly tolerant of people who want to flout those laws. We generally close threads on sight that advocate projects that are violating IP laws in other forums.

We are only trying to help you. That may not be obvious to you, because you don't want to hear the advice. But it is true and sound advice nonetheless. If it really bothers you that much, you are free to simply ignore the posts (although this historically tends to involve the thread deteriorating to a point at which is becomes closed due to lack of useful content) -- but you are not permitted to get all huffy and puffy when everybody wants to tell you the truth, that what you are doing could be very risky, frowned-upon business.

Thanks jpetrie. I couldn't have said it better myself.

I apologise for being off-topic, but part of the reason this thread is struggling to stay on course is that it lacked direction and purpose right from the start, and it really isn't clear what the topic actually is. I'd recommend reading this.

So far the only remotely 'good' question in this thread was your request for opinions about the weapon designs - but even that is difficult to respond to since the pictures are far too small to actually make out any detail (I think you've posted the thumbnails, but not linked the actual big versions).
Here is a larger version of the images. I also set up links to the actual file.

The Visual Arts section would be better for art critique. But given this is manga, Rule of Cool applies so they all look fine to me. What kind of game are you planning? Are those going to be sprites or 3D models?
3D. There is no way a Soul Eater game would look cool in 2D, so 3D is a must.
